In Astana, the Summer Research School for students of Intellectual schools has finished. It was held in Nazarbayev University.
During two weeks, more than 200 high school students from all over the republic attended lessons on science, engineering, technology, medicine and mining. The initiative to create a scientific camp during the summer holidays belongs to Nazarbayev University.
- Children are on the threshold of choosing the future profession. This is a great experience for them and for us. Today, for example, one student decided to enter the School of Science and Technology in Nazarbayev University, - said Assem Duisembekova, representative of the School of Science and Technology.
For schoolchildren, 10 laboratories worked simultaneously. Students comprehended the basics of science under the guidance of the Nazarbayev University scientific employees. The design of solar-powered machines, programming in Python for engineering applications, introduction to 3D printing and modeling of the aerodynamic profile of the wing, simulation of mine ventilation, geological modeling and other projects were studied and created by the students of the summer school.
The trainer of the 3D prototyping foundations Ilyas Tursynbek acknowledged the high skills in robotics of the Intellectual schools students. "They are very erudite, that first of all, speaks about the professionalism of the NIS teachers and coaches. Knowledge of English is a huge plus for the development of research activities in this direction, as well as for communication with a humanoid robot named Pepper".
For many participants, the Summer School in Nazarbayev University has become a unique platform for self-realization. The 12th grade student of NIS Pavlodar Angelina Zhernakova admitted that she felt like a real scientist, working in well-equipped laboratories that allow conducting serious research activities. Malika Mustayeva from Intellectual School in Semey, like most of the participants in the Summer School, especially was impressed by the School of Medicine. In the laboratory, they created a copy of human DNA, studied the anatomy using the latest equipment and mock-ups.
The summer school was also opened for the NIS teachers. According to the teacher of Chemistry from Intellectual School in Taraz Stanislav Kotov, the Summer school which was organized in NU is very motivating.
- First, children are imbued with the atmosphere of lifelong learning. Secondly, different approaches of teachers contribute to the comprehensive development of students. Thirdly, the importance of cooperation between NIS and NU aimed at developing the intellectual potential and research activity of students, - shared his impressions Stanislav Kotov.
